Wondering if we can use DVD's successfully as blind folks. I am a ssenior citizen and have only a CD drive on my computer and no DVD equipment. Any thoughts on this subject are appreciated. I went out to lunch with some folks who talked quite a bit about watching DVD's. As I understand it because each disk is set up differently, we can't have 1 accessible machine that can have the same settings for each disk. Would love to listen to old TV shows.

Hmmm! I guess you're looking for a DVD player then. There're loads of different makes and models on the market, but your best bet would probably be to go for one made by Panasonic or Sony, as they have all the tactile buttons or diferent sized and shaped buttons on the handset and/or the player itself. My DVD player for example, I think it's made by Panasonic. It doesn't have a recording facility, though I wouldn't be able to use that anyway, but when you get used to the hand set, you can tell which button's which as they either point in different directions or they're different shapes/sizes. My Enter button is a big round button more or less right in the middle of the remote, with the fast forward/rewind buttons below it and pointing diagonally to the left and right and the back and forward skip buttons above the enter button to the left and right, pointing the oposite way to the buttons below Enter, with the four tiny round arrow buttons located in the spaces between the four longer back/forward buttons. The numbers are arranged like a TV remote, above the enter, arrows and back/forward buttons with power on/off and drawer open/shut buttons on the very top left and right. There are a few other buttons which I'm not sure what they do yet on the handset, but as I only play games and watch films on that DVD player at present, I'm not unduely bothered to find out their functions. If you are looking for a DVD player though, do bear in mind that a lot of these TVs/DVD players rely almost solely on the handset so you can use them effectively, so when looking ayt them online or in the shops, I'd choose one with an easy-to-use/remember remote control unit.

I hope you find what you're looking for anyway.

Jen.

My dvd remote control is quite big and has lots of buttons on it. I know the ones near the top just under the on/off and open/close buttons are the numbers and the enter key is a round thing. I have forgotten where the skip backwards and forwards buttons are, but I find them eventually. I have to turn the volume buttons up and down on the tv, though.
